The Institute of Astronomy of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology
(ETH Zurich) invites applications for a number of postdoctoral research
positions in the extragalactic research groups of Professors Carollo
and Lilly. The positions are initially for three years, but may be
extended for up to six. Senior applicants will be considered for longer
term appointments with student supervision responsibilities.
The positions are available to work in
scientific areas that are
connected with the following research projects: (a) the COSMOS and
zCOSMOS survey programs; (b) the UDF09/WFC3 ultra-deep imaging survey; (c) the ZENS
survey of nearby galaxy groups; (d) the MUSE integral field spectrograph on
the ESO VLT; (e) the ESA EUCLID cosmology satellite

Switzerland is
a full member of ESO and ESA, and Institute staff have
access to all their observational facilities, including the 4
eight-meter telescopes of the VLT. The two groups have guaranteed
access to a network of workstations and a large fast-connection Beowulf
cluster, and competitive access to the Cray XT, IBM and other
supercomputers of the Swiss National Supercomputing Center (CSCS).
The salary will be approximately CHF
78,000-95,000 (about USD
71,000-90,000) depending on experience. Research funds are available
for travel, conference participation, publication charges and other
requirements.
